Virtual reality games have become increasingly popular in recent years. With the introduction of affordable VR headsets like the Oculus Quest 2 (also known as the Meta Quest 2) and PlayStation VR, games in virtual reality have gained traction among veteran gamers and new gamers alike. But which VR titles are worth buying?
The VR Space team looked at ratings of virtual games from review website Metacritic to determine the best VR gaming titles available.
Based on Metacritic ratings, which aggregate reviews from trusted critics and websites, these are some of the best VR games available:

Based on the reviews, Half Life: Alyx and Beat Saber are the best virtual reality games available, with both earning Metacritic scores of 93. Half Life: Alyx is an action-adventure game that both fans of the Half Life franchise and new players will enjoy. Gamers play the role of Alyx Vance, who is humanity’s only chance to survive against an alien race called the Combine. The game includes puzzle-solving, exploration of the environment, and combat. It’s available to play on VR headsets like the Valve Index and HTC Vive. Its great reviews show that it’s one of the best VR headset games on the market.
Beat Saber is another incredibly popular VR game that received high ratings. This is a VR rhythm game that challenges players to slice blocks with virtual sabers in time to music. It has expanded by offering several downloadable content packages to add more songs to the game, including packages of songs by Green Day, Lady Gaga, Linkin Park, and more. It won a number of awards in 2019, including the Game Awards’ Best VR/AR Game, the Golden Joystick Awards’ Best VR/AR Game, and the SXSW Gaming Awards’ VR Game of the Year.
The PlayStation VR (PSVR) also has a number of offerings that have received great reviews. The best-reviewed game on the PSVR is Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. It received a Metacritic score of 90 and got positive reviews from gaming websites like IGN and GameCritics. Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is a PSVR exclusive that requires players to assume the role of Astro and save fellow bots that are scattered all over space. It is generally regarded as the best VR game for the PSVR.
Dreams is another game available on the PSVR that has received rave reviews. In the game, players control a character who can take control of elements in the environment and manipulate objects in the universe. Players can explore environments created by the community or try their hand at making their own. Dreams won the Best VR/AR Game award at 2020’s Game Awards and continues to get positive reviews.
