Bigscreen Beyond New VR Headset

A new VR headset was announced by Bigscreen. I didn’t even know Bigscreen developed hardware, so this was a surprise to me. It’s described as the world’s smallest headset, and by the looks of it, they seem to be telling the truth. Unlike a lot of the other headsets being announced, this headset is not a standalone device. It needs to be plugged into a PC to work. This helps reduce the size of the headset because all the processing power is in the computer. Based on the specs, this small headset looks as capable as something like the Index or Vive Pro.

The headset offers 5k resolution, micro OLED monitors, 90 Hz refresh rate, and 90 degree FOV. I use an Index as my primary headset, which has a 120 degree FOV. I wish we could get something bigger then that on the market. Though, with the specs Bigscreen is advertising, it’s hard to complain about the FOV.

Bigscreen says this headset is custom fitted. You have to send them a scan of your face so that they can custom fit it. This sounds like a great idea, but it comes with a small caveat. You need an iphone XR or newer to do this. Not everyone has an iphone, so I guess this just isn’t available for those people.

While this headset is very  interesting, I will not be purchasing it. If I was in the market for a new headset, this would be a contender. The specs are great, and its super small. For now, my Index is enough though.
