Virtual Reality Meeting and Conference Room Software
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more companies have sent their workers home to work remotely, but communication issues can easily arise without the benefit of face-to-face contact. Thankfully, due to VR technology becoming more accessible to mainstream markets, companies can take advantage of virtual reality meeting room software. These apps are designed to create immersive and interactive settings that make it feel like the employees are all back together in the same building once more. Since remote work has become the new normal, companies have jumped on the opportunity to create an immersive virtual reality conference room to help workers be more productive and give them the benefit of interactivity.

Multiple apps have been created for different VR headsets, including:

Spatial can have up to 40 users at once and allows workers to take notes, share their screens, share files, and use voice-to-text capabilities. It can support images, videos, PDFs, and 3D objects from Google and Sketchfab, and when you present materials in a meeting, it feels as if you’re conjuring them out of thin air. This intuitive VR app also comes with a mobile app that allows users to navigate the space on their screen or use an augmented reality (AR) mode.

Meta developed this virtual reality meeting room software and collaboration tool specifically for the Oculus Quest 2. It can host up to 16 users as virtual avatars, but that number can be increased to 50 if video calls are used instead. It’s a step above many of the other meeting rooms due to its mixed-reality features; typing on your real keyboard can be tracked in real-time and translated onto your virtual screen. Good audio quality adds to the immersion and makes it feel as if your colleagues are actually in the same room as you.

Similar to Horizon Workrooms, MeetinVR uses virtual avatars to create a room for smaller meetings of up to 8 people, but you can also choose an auditorium environment where up to 30 attendees can listen to one speaker. It provides an immersive and interactive experience that can be used to increase engagement in meetings, as the app makes it easy to take notes using a writing surface of your own choosing.

This virtual reality conference room is closest to MeetinVR in nature, but its polished features and security options mean that it is more appealing to bigger organizations. It has large environments that are perfect for bigger groups, and it’s even possible for people to break into smaller groups, as up to four concurrent meetings can be held in the same space.

This open-source project from the same company that created the Firefox browser can be run in the browser of almost every VR headset as well as in 2D browsers on desktop and mobile devices. It can be used for meetings with as little as two or three people as well as conferences that have more than 2,000 attendees. There are plenty of pre-made environments available, and you can also create your own using a design tool called Spoke. It provides an accessible and simple enough space for meeting participants depending on their needs.
These options are just a few of the most popular available now, but more VR office spaces are being created all the time. If you are trying to determine which virtual reality meeting room software is the best fit for your office and business, it may be best to try a few different options and see which one is right for your specific needs.
